The Three Chimneys x Angus Ross

Award winning The Three Chimneys restaurant with rooms, commissioned us to make a bespoke furniture collection for their bedrooms.

Angus and Lorna were delighted to visit Skye to experience the fabulous food at The Three Chimney’s and their cosy bedrooms in the House Over-by early this year. The new bespoke furniture collection includes bedside tables, coffee tables and drinks cabinets for the six guest bedrooms in the House Over-by next door to The Three Chimneys restaurant. It may sound obvious but we feel that The Three Chimneys and Angus Ross are a great pairing as their restaurant creates exceptional food using local ingredients, and our workshop creates exquisite furniture using local wood. When designing the new furniture collection Angus thinks first of all of the function and the design details were inspired by local vernacular tongue-and-groove woodwork and tapered chimney pots. The collection is made in ash sourced from Scottish Wood, a specialist native timber mill, wood-yard and social enterprise based near Dunfermline..

The coffee table (above) has asymmetrical tapered legs and a tongue-and-groove shelf. The table legs are rounded off and brought through the table top and wedged in a traditional strong visible joint enhancing the attractive grain of the table top.

The bedside tables (below) have a tapered shape and tongue and groove structure.

The drinks cabinet contains a drinks fridge one side and storage on the other and features asymmetric and tapered elements.

Brett Davidge, managing director of The Wee Hotel Company which owns The Three Chimneys said “Angus Ross is recognised nationally as an award-winning designer, master craftsman and woodsman. His unrivalled experience and passion for transforming local sustainable wood into the finest quality furniture is the perfect fit for The Three Chimneys. His collection has really elevated our six individually styled guest rooms, adding an extra touch of warmth, character and charm.”

We visited Skye in February and were fortunate with the weather.  We would highly recommend a winter visit as the island is quiet, the snow speckled hills are stunning and the sea bracing.
